Product updates and the odd note from the people who make Birch Lane Notes.
Beta update: faster sync and offline editsProduct
Sync now sends only the lines that changed, so a long note updates in a fraction of a second even on a slow mobile connection. Notes edited offline are merged when the device reconnects; if two devices change the same line, both versions are kept and marked so you can choose.
Next on the list: search inside attachments and a lighter Android app.
Repotting the fig before winter
The fiddle-leaf fig finally outgrew its pot. A slightly larger terracotta pot, a mix of bark and coarse sand, and a week without fertiliser seem to have done the job. It dropped one leaf in protest and then carried on as if nothing had happened.
Slow coffee on cold mornings
Switched back to the old hand grinder. It takes a couple of minutes longer, but the coffee tastes rounder and the kitchen is quiet. Medium grind, water just off the boil, four minutes in the press.
Along the old railway line
Walked the disused railway path from the station to the lake. Most of the sleepers are gone, the birches have taken over the embankment, and the view from the iron bridge is still the best one in the area. About eleven kilometres there and back.
The beta is openProduct
Birch Lane Notes is now open to a small group of friends and their friends. Every member can invite three people. If something breaks, tell us from the app: the feedback button sends your device model and app version, and nothing from your notes.
Last tomatoes of the season
The greenhouse gave one more basket before the nights turned cold. The green ones went into a chutney with apples and onions; the recipe needs less sugar next time.
